A sound healing or sound bath is a deeply relaxing, meditative experience which can take you on a journey of deep relaxation, healing and self discovery. It is an immersion in beautiful sounds and vibrations that are healing for your body, mind and spirit.
Everything in the Universe is composed of vibrations, including our bodies. Every cell and organ in our bodies vibrates at a particular frequency. Sound and vibration travels up to five times more effectively through water, and as our bodies are around 70% water we can understand how sound and vibration can affect us at a cellular level.
A sound bath is the easiest form of mediation because you don’t have to do anything. Just relax and let the sound do all the work. The sounds of Tibetan singing bowls and other healing instruments will flood the room. You will literally be bathed in sound. Tibetan bowls hold resonance, and as each one is played the tones pass into your body, quiet your mind, calm the nervous system and balance your energy. A sound bath can take you into a theta brainwave state of deep relaxation and healing, leaving you feeling totally zen and deeply rested.
Using sound and vibration is one of the oldest healing modalities and was used thousands of years ago in the Aboriginal, Greek and Egyptian cultures. The Aboriginal people were among the fist cultures known to heal with sound more than 40,000 years ago. Tibetan monks have also used singing bowls for healing for thousands of years.
WHAT TO EXPECT..
During a sound bath you will experience deep relaxation and a profound sense of peace and wellbeing. You will be lead through a short guided-meditation to prepare your body and mind for the experience which follows. You lay under a cosy blanket, shoes off, phone off, with an eye pillow, cushions and any props needed to make you feel comfortable. You will be bathed in the sound and soothing tones of the Tibetan singing bowls and other healing instruments. These tones will link with your brain waves and soothe both your mind and body leading you into a profound deep state of relaxation. Sound baths have been known to work wonders for stress relief, insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain and even depression and PTSD.
You will literally feel the sound in your body. You might feel like laughing, crying or sleeping as sound baths are such an effective way of releasing emotions trapped deep within the body. You don’t have to have previous mediation experience.
Each sound bath experience will be unlike the last.
WHO CAN HAVE A SOUND BATH?
Sound Baths are suitable for people of all ages from young children to the elderly. Sound Baths are suitable for pregnant woman however in this case the bowls will not be played close to the body. No previous experience of working with sound or meditation is required.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Deep states of relaxation can be created through sound altering our brainwave states. When our brainwave state moves from a normal waking state known as ‘beta’ down to an ‘alpha’ (conscious relaxed state), Theta (dreamlike state) and sometimes even delta (deep sleep) we experience a decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, our bodies relax, our breath depends and we move into a receptive state where deep healing can occur.
Sound has a profound affect on our nervous system - helping to turn on our parasympathetic nervous system which is our relaxation response. Activating our parasympathetic nervous system gives our bodies a chance to relax and heal. Through all the various tones of the bowls and other healing instruments, the body is offered an opportunity to resonate with a healing frequency. You are in essence giving your mind and body an opportunity to shift to a higher frequency and let go of lower vibrational thoughts, emotions and other issues.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
An open heart and mind and a yoga mat, blanket, pillow; anything you need to feel comfortable. It’s important to keep yourself well hydrated after attending a sound bath as is recommended after attending any healing session.
